Conab Trims Brazil's Soybean Estimate, Increases Corn Estimate

In their April Crop Report released on Thursday, April 7, Conab trimmed their estimate of the 2021/22 Brazil soybean crop by 0.33 million tons to 122.43 million. For the 2021/22 Brazil corn crop, Conab increased the corn production by 3.26 million tons to 115.6 million.
The 2021/22 Brazil soybean acreage is estimated at 40.8 million hectares (100.7 million acres) and the yield is estimated at 3,000 kg/ha (44.7 bu/ac), which is down 0.2 bu/ac from the prior month. The soybean production is down 11.4% or 15.7 million tons from last year's production of 138.1 million tons.
Brazil's total corn production is now estimated at 115.6 million tons which is up 32.7% or 28.5 million tons from last year's production of 87.0 million tons. The first corn crop is estimated at 24.8 million tons, which is up 0.5 million from last month. The safrinha corn is estimated at 88.5 million tons, which is up 2.3 million tons from last month and the third corn crop is estimated at 2.1 million tons, which is up 0.3 million from last month.
The first corn crop is in advanced stages of harvest, the safrinha corn is primarily in vegetative development, and the third corn crop in northeastern Brazil will be planted starting the second week of April.
The forecast for April-May-June is calling for below normal rainfall in most of southern Brazil especially the states of Parana and Santa Catarina. In the center-west region, except for Mato Grosso, rainfall is expected to be below normal especially in April and May.
Brazil's 2021/22 internal demand for soybean is estimated at 49.9 million tons with exports estimated at 77 million tons. In 2020/21, Brazil exported 86.1 million tons. Exports are down due to lower production and increased soybean oil production.
Brazil's 2021/22 internal demand for corn is estimated at 77.1 million tons and exports are estimated at 37.0 million tons, which is up 2.0 million from last month. In 2020/21, Brazil exported 20.8 million tons of corn.
