Soybean planting in the state of Parana is the most advanced in five years. Farmers in the state had planted 16% of their 2023/24 soybeans as of earlier this week according to the Department of Rural Economics (Deral). This represents an advance of 10% for the week and it trails only the 18% planted in 2018.
Planting the first corn crop was 71% earlier this week, which represents an advance of 13% for the week. The corn is 25% germinating and 75% in vegetative development. Corn planting in southern Parana is essentially complete and farmers are being advised to monitor their fields for corn leafhoppers , which have already been registered in the area.
The safrinha corn harvest in the state is 99% complete with the last remaining corn to be harvested in the northern and northwestern parts of the state. Corn yields in northern Parana vary by planting date and in northwestern Parana, corn yields are slightly above average. Safrinha corn yields in western and southern Parana were positive, but farmers are disappointed in the low domestic corn prices.
