Parana's "Soybean Free" and Soy Planting Dates Moved Forward

The state of Parana in southern Brazil will be divided into three regions for the annual "soybean free" period and the date that farmers can start planting their 2024/25 soybeans. In past years, the entire state had the same starting and ending dates for the "soybean free" period.
During the 90-day period, no live soybean plants are permitted in fields, along roadways, or around storage or transportation facilities. Farmers in the state must also eliminate any soybeans that may have germinated in fields of winter wheat, barley, or oats.
The three regions consider the state's microclimates and the best time to plant soybeans.
Region #1 - This region represents the southern and eastern parts of the state which has the fewest hectares of soybeans of the three regions. The "soybean free" period is from June 21st through September 19th. Soybean planting in the region is from September 20, 2024 through January 18, 2025.
Region # 2 - This region represents the north, northwest, west-central, and western regions of the state and is by far the largest soybean producing region in Parana. The "soybean free" period is from June 2nd through August 31st. Soybean planting is from September 1, 2024 through December 30, 2024.
Region #3 - The region represents the southwestern part of the state and is the second largest soybean producing region. The "soybean free" period is from June 22nd through September 20th. Soybean planting is from September 21, 2024 through January 19, 2025.
Farmers in the state may start planting soybeans a few days earlier than the official start date, but soybean emergence must not occur before the end of the "soybean free" period.
Soybeans in the state can now be planted 10 days earlier than last year and it is possible that the 2024/25 soybean harvest in the state could begin in late November or early December 2024.
