Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.
Farmers in the southern Brazilian state of Parana are busy planting corn and soybeans as well as harvesting their winter wheat. Farmers had planted 10% of their 2024/25 soybeans as of earlier this week compared to 16% last year according to the Department of Rural Economics (Deral). This represents an advance of 9% for the week.
The forecast is calling for additional chances of rainfall, so planting should continue unabated. Deral is estimating that the 2024/25 soybean acreage in Parana will be essentially unchanged from last year at 5.8 million hectares (14.3 million acres).
Farmers in the state have also planted 60% of their first corn crop compared to 71% last year. This represents an advance of 14% for the week. The second corn crop, which is the largest, is planted in January and February after the soybeans are harvested.
Winter wheat is also being harvested in the state with 48% of the crop harvested compared to 60% last year. This represents an advance of 14% for the week.
