Parana is one of the three largest soybean producing states in Brazil and it is the state that is the most advanced in this year's soybean harvest. According to the Department of Rural Economics (Deral), farmers in the state have harvested 23% of their soybeans compared to 25% last year.

Hot and dry weather during January negatively impacted the early maturing soybeans that were filling pods under adverse conditions. As a result, many farmers are reporting small seed size from their early harvested soybeans. The later planted soybeans benefited from recent rain, but they represent a small percentage of the crop.

Farmers are now concerned that continued rainfall could impact the soybeans that are waiting to be harvested. Deral is estimating the 2024/25 soybean crop in Parana at 21.3 million tons, which is up 15% from last year's drought impacted crop.

Deral reported that the first corn crop is 11% harvested and that the safrinha corn is 28% planted. The safrinha corn production is estimated at 15.5 million tons, which is an increase of 24% compared to the 2023/24 crop that was decimated by severe drought.
