Last Monday, Mato Grosso's governor, Mauro Mendes, inaugurated a new railroad bridge over the Rio Vermelho, in Rondonopolis, Mato Grosso. The bridge was constructed by RUMO as part of its expansion of the Ferronorte railroad into central Mato Grosso.

The extension will be state-owned and extend 743 kilometers from Rondonopolis to the state capital of Cuiaba, and on to the cities of Nova Mutum, and Lucas do Rio Verde, which are prime soybean producing regions of Mato Grosso. The bridge in Rondonopolis is 460 meters long and the entire project will consist of 22 bridges, 21 overpasses, 5 underpasses, and 2 tunnels. The first grain terminal should be operational in 2026. Upon completion, the railroad will connect the heart of soybean production in Mato Grosso with the port of Santos in southeastern Brazil, which is Brazil's largest port.
