2024/25 Argentina Corn Estimate Lowered 1.0 mt to 49.0 Million
Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.
The reason for the lower corn estimate is the disappointing yields coming out of northern Argentina. Farmers in northern Argentina have harvested approximately 40% of their corn with yields in the range of 4,290 kg/ha (68.2 bu/ac). Corn production in northern Argentina accounts for only a small fraction of the total production, but the yields are low enough to drag down the total production.
Argentine farmers made good progress harvesting their corn last week which now is 61.7% harvested. In the core areas, the corn is 95% harvested with 50-70% harvested in southern Argentina and 40% harvested in northern Argentina. Harvesting in western and central Buenos Aires remains slow due to wet conditions and high grain moisture.
The nationwide corn yield now stands at 7,570 kg/ha (120.3 bu/ac) and it is being limited by the lower yields coming out of northern Argentina. The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange is estimating the corn crop at 49.0 million tons.
Below is the corn harvest progress in Argentina for July 2, 2025 from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange.
