2025/26 Brazil's First Corn Crop 60% Planted

Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

The first corn crop in Brazil was 60% planted as of late last week compared to 59% last year. This represents an advance of 5% for the week. Planting is nearly complete in southern Brazil and planting is now moving north into the states of Sao Paulo, northern Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, and Goias, but dry conditions have limited planting in those states.

Parana - The first corn crop in Parana was 98% planted as of earlier last week. Corn is 4% germinating, 96% in vegetative development, and rated 3% average and 97% good.

The safrinha corn, which represents approximately 80% of Brazil's corn production, will be planted next January and February and there are concerns that planting may be delayed past the ideal planting window due to soybean planting delays in east-central Brazil and the need to replant some of the soybeans in Parana. Cotton producers in east-central Brazil have already indicated that it will be too late to plant safrinha cotton due to the delayed soybean planting. In that case, they may switch some of their intended cotton acreage to soybeans instead.
