The Argentine Economic Minister announced last Wednesday the approval of a new port on the Parana River at Timbues, Santa Fe north of the city of Rosario. The firm Terminales y Servicios SA announced an investment of US$ 290 million for the port that will handle grain, fertilizers, bulk, and liquid products.
The project is located north of the city of Rosario on a property of 186 hectares (460 acres) on the Parana River where the company seeks to connect directly to the production of grain in the central and northern regions of the country. The company ensures that it will be a sustainable port with environmental certification thanks to a protected nature reserve composed of a historic eucalyptus plantation.
The facility is designed with three terminals:
- Agrograin terminal - designed to load and unload grain with a capacity to receive up to 1,000 trucks per day and a storage capacity of 100,000 tons and a loading capacity of 1,500 tons per hour per each conveyor belt.
- General loads and fertilizer terminal: designed for bulk materials such as fertilizers, iron ore, and steel products, among others with a storage capacity of 480,000 tons with bagging, mixing, and dispatch services.
- Liquid terminal: designed for loading and unloading fertilizers, fuels, incorporating storage tanks and dispatch of boats and trucks with a storage capacity of 120,000 cubic
meters in carbon steel tanks with a capacity of up to 350 trucks per day.
