Argentina Soy 82% Planted, Estimate Unchanged at 49.0 mt

In Argentina, rains were limited last week, favoring northwest Cordoba and north central Buenos Aires. Dryness continues to build across southern Cordoba, southern Santa Fe, southern Entre Rios, La Pampa, and Buenos Aires. Rain should remain limited through early this week, then build in northern areas later in the week. Dryness and stress will increase further in central and southern areas (see later article).

Dry weather prevailed across most of Argentina over the weekend, with just a few light

showers noted in northern Santa Fe, and southeastern Entre Rios. Temperatures were below normal, especially across southern and eastern Argentina, where temperatures dropped as low as 42°F (5°C). The cool weather is generally favorable for crops, although it is slowing crop growth a bit. Dryness remains across south central and southern growing areas, with little rainfall expected in those areas this week.

Over the last several weeks, I had been thinking about increasing the Argentine soybean estimate, but recent dry weather and the forecast for limited rainfall going forward made me more cautious. Therefore, the soybean estimate was left unchanged again this week with a neutral bias.

Soybeans in Argentina were 82% planted as of the middle of last week. This represents an advance of 6.5% for the week. In the core production areas, the soybeans are 95% planted with 75-90% planted in southern Argentina and 25% planted in far northern Argentina. Wet conditions in northern Argentina are slowing the planting progress. Double crop soybeans are 72% planted and soybeans are 17% flowering nationwide.

Below is the soybean planting pace in Argentina for December 30, 2025 from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange.
