Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.
On Tuesday, September 11th, Conab released their last monthly crop report concerning the 2017/18 growing season in Brazil. In their report, they increased their estimate for the 2017/18 Brazilian soybean crop by 0.3 million tons to 119.2 million. The estimate for the 2017/18 Brazilian corn crop was lowered 0.8 million tons to 81.3 million.
The total Brazilian corn production is now down 16.4 million tons (-16.8%) from last year's production of 97.8 million tons. The decline this month was due to a smaller safrinha corn production. The safrinha corn production is now estimated at 54.5 million tons, which is down 12.8 million tons (-19%) from last year's production of 67.3 million.
The September Crop Report will be the last estimate for the 2017/18 growing season. In their October Crop Report, Conab will issue their first estimates concerning the 2018/19 growing season in Brazil.
