U.S. Corn Down 2% to 62% GD/EX, Soy up 2% to 60% GD/EX

Corn - The 2021 U.S. corn condition declined 2% last week to 62% rated good and excellent. Six states indicated that the corn condition improved last week, and 12 states indicated that the corn condition declined last week. Most of the improvements were found in the eastern Corn Belt while most of the declines were found in the western Corn Belt. The top five rated corn states are: Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The five lowest rated corn states are: North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Kansas.
The area of greatest concern continues to be the northwestern Corn Belt where the corn in North Dakota is rated 18% GD/EX (down 3%), South Dakota is rated 32% GD/EX (down 2%), Minnesota is rated 36% GD/EX (down 2%), and Iowa is rated 62% GD/EX (down 3%).
Soybeans - The 2021 U.S. soybean condition improved 2% last week to 60% rated good and excellent. Eight states indicated that the soybean condition improved last week, 8 states indicated that the soybean condition declined, and 2 states were unchanged. Most of the improvements were found in the eastern Corn Belt and the Delta while most of the declines were found in the western Corn Belt. The top five rated soybean states are: Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Mississippi. The five lowest rated soybean states are: North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Kansas, and Missouri.
The soybean condition improved 2% based mainly on a strong showing by the soybeans in the eastern Corn Belt and Delta. Indiana soybeans are rated 72% GD/EX (up 4%), Illinois is rated 67% GD/EX (up 3%), Ohio is rated 74% GD/EX (up 6%), Mississippi is rated 82% GD/EX (up 1%), and Louisiana is rated 83% GD/EX (up 1%).
Soil Moisture - The nation's topsoil got dryer last week with 2 states indicating improved soil moisture, while 16 states indicated lower soil moisture. The only improvements were found in Iowa and Wisconsin while all the other states declined. The five states with the highest soil moisture are: Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois. The five states with the lowest soil moisture are: North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska.
The driest states continue to be in the western Corn Belt with North Dakota rated 91% short to very short on topsoil moisture, South Dakota is 84% short, Minnesota is 81% short, and Iowa is 50% short. The soil moisture will likely decline again next Monday.
