Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

Rains slowed the soybean harvest last week, but the additional moisture probably helped the late planted soybeans that are still filling pods. The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange reported that the average soybean yield thus far was 3,600 kg/ha (53.6 bu/ac) with a wide range of 1,900 to 3,390 kg/ha (28.3 to 50.5 bu/ac). The best yields are being reported from the core production areas.

The soybeans in Argentina were 7.2% harvested late last week compared to 37.8% last year and 28.8% average. This represents an advance of 3.6% for the week. In the core production areas, the soybeans are approximately 15% harvested with less than 10% harvested in the southern areas and less than 5% harvested in the northern areas. The early planted soybeans are approximately 86% mature, while the later planted soybeans are 40% mature.

The soybeans in Argentina were rated 30% poor/very poor, 61% fair, and 9% good/excellent as of late last week. The good/excellent percentage compares to 9% the prior week. The soil moisture for the corn was rated 12% short/very short, 87% favorable/optimum, 1% surplus. The favorable/optimum percentage compares to 78% the prior week.
