U.S. Corn up 1% to 59% Gd/Ex, Soybeans up 1% to 58% Gd/Ex

Corn - The condition of the 2021 U.S. corn crop improved 1% last week to 59% rated good to excellent. Ten states indicated that the corn condition improved last week, 5 states indicated that the corn condition declined, and 3 states were unchanged. Most of the improvements were found in the central Corn Belt while most of the declines were found in the northern Corn Belt. The top five rated corn states are: Pennsylvania, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. The five lowest rated corn states are: North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, and Kansas.

The corn is maturing at a pace 10% faster than average - 57% mature vs. 47% average. The corn in Minnesota is 59% mature vs. 37% average (+22%), Illinois is 72% mature vs. 52% average (+20%), Michigan is 44% mature vs. 25% average (+19%), and Ohio is 49% mature vs. 32% average (+17%).

Soybeans - The condition of the 2021 U.S. soybean crop improved 1% last week to 58% rated good to excellent. Eight states indicated that the soybean condition improved last week, 7 states indicated that the soybean condition declined, and 3 states were unchanged. Most of the improvements were found in the central Corn Belt while most of the declines were found in the northern Corn Belt. The top five rated soybean states are: Indiana, Michigan, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Illinois. The five lowest rated soybean states are: North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Kansas.

The soybeans are also maturing at a pace 10% faster than average with 58% dropping leaves vs. 48% average. Michigan is 76% dropping leaves vs. 46% average (+30%), Minnesota is 74% dropping leaves vs. 53% average (+21%), Illinois is 54% dropping leaves vs. 38% average (+16%), Indiana is 64% dropping leaves vs. 49% average (+15%), and Ohio is 59% dropping leaves vs. 44% average (+15%).

Soil Moisture - The nation's topsoil got dryer last week with 9 states indicating improved soil moisture while 9 states indicated lower soil moisture. Most of the improvements were found in the southern and northern states while most of the declines were found in the central states. The five states with the highest soil moisture are: Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Michigan. The five states with the lowest soil moisture are: South Dakota, North Dakota, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Indiana.
