2022/23 Argentina Corn 17.5% Harvested, Average Yield 68.3 bu/ac

The corn in Argentina was 17.5% harvested as of late last week compared to 24.6% last year and 28.8% average. This represents an increase of 2.8% for the week. In the core production areas, the corn is 55-60% harvested with 10-20% harvested in southern Argentina and 0% harvested in far northern Argentina. The early planted corn is 41% harvested and the later planted corn is 47% filling grain.

Corn yields have held up better than the soybean yields in Argentina. The average nationwide yield of the corn harvested thus far is 4,300 kg/ha (68.3 bu/ac) which is up 3.0 bu/ac from the prior week. Southern Buenos Aires had the best weather this growing season and their corn yields could be as high as 7,500 to 8,000 kg/ha (119.2 to 127.2 bu/ac). Central Santa Fe and Entre Rios had the worst weather this growing season and their corn yields could be 2,000 to 2,050 kg/ha (31.8 to 32.5 bu/ac). The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange left their corn estimate unchanged at 36.0 million tons.

The corn in Argentina was rated 52% poor/very poor, 43% fair, and 5% good/excellent. The good/excellent percentage was down 1% from the prior week. The soil moisture for the corn was rated 49% short/very short and 51% favorable/optimum. The favorable/optimum was down 4% from the prior week.
