Farmers in Argentina had planted 7.3% of their 2023/24 corn as of late last week compared to 15% average. This represents an advance of 2% for the week. The most advanced corn planting is in Entre Rios and the core production regions where 25-35% of the corn has been planted.

The weather last week in Argentina was generally dry across the northern regions with frosts across the southern regions. The forecast for this week is calling for scattered light showers. The forecast for next week is for lighter and sparser showers. The showers will not slow planting, but the rains will be too light to significantly boost soil moisture, which could stress germination.

The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange estimates that farmers will plant 7.3 mha of corn (18 million acres), which is down 2.6% compared to last year. The Argentine Minister of Agriculture estimates that the corn acreage will decline 0.4%.
