Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

Argentina received generous rain amounts last week in the central and northeastern part of the country resulting in some wetness concerns. The 10-15 day forecast is calling for warmer-than-normal and dryer-than-normal weather across most of the country. If the forecast verifies, some moisture stress could develop in the southern areas such as La Pampa and Buenos Aires.

As of late last week, the corn in Argentina was 93% planted with 23% pollinating and 5% filling grain. Most of the corn left to plant is in far northern Argentina. Approximately 3% of the corn is experiencing saturated conditions especially in eastern Argentina.

The corn in Argentina was rated 3% poor/very poor, 51% fair, and 46% good/excellent as of late last week. The good/excellent percentage is up 10% from the prior week. The soil moisture for corn is rated 4% short/very short, 93% favorable/optimum, and 3% saturated. The favorable/optimum percentage is unchanged from the prior week.
